Below are some photos and information from Richard Lacroix.
"Hello Patricia, I was just looking at your
web site again an noticed that you
added a 'shelter' section. Well, I figured it needed a bit of
'green' colour so I
am sending you a couple of .jpg pictures of some shelters that
a friend of
mine and I used to own a few years ago. Needless to say, they
are all gone
now ... even the one that I had kept for my self. Just couldn't
find the room to
keep it so it went to a good home.
Here is a bit of history on the shelters. Lots of them were used
in Desert
Storm. They are [S-144] (small) and S-350 (bigger) shelters. They
were in
various configurations.
Some were equipped with GRC-19 installations (like the one I had),
known as
AN/GRC-46, complete with RT, Modems, TTY etc... Others were
telephone
switches and relay stations using radio link equipment like the
AN/GRC-103
and the GRC-163 using some RT-524s etc ...
The larger (brown) shelters had AN/TLQ-15 counter measures set
(complete).
I actually had one on-the-air to see it all work. Wow! Others has
some radar
imaging equipment. The data was relayed to the shelter via UHF
radio and
plotted on a CRT and paper.
Enjoy
