Info on gear used by U.S. Forces in Afghanistan
Late-breaking net info for armyradios members:
For those of you in the Western US, or on the US West Coast, the HF
SSB net that has been held on Saturday mornings is being moved to
a new day
and time:
This net was:
Saturday mornings 7296 KHz USB @ 10:00 Pacific time..
This net is now:
Wednesday evenings 7296 KHz USB @ 8:00 PM Pacific time.
Of the 540+ members of this armyradios list, I imagine that those
who are located both in the Western US, and are also able to get on
HF SSB, becomes a fairly small number ..
I believe that the highest number of check-ins on our Saturday net
has been 10 to 11 people.
Here's an interesting page that I've found regarding a Marine Corps training exercise with an AN/PRC104: <http://oo-rah.com/seastories/ss0718.shtml>
Bart, WB6HQK, was on a trip in the Mojave desert this past
week, and KK7IF, WA6VVC, and I were consistently able to hook
up with Bart at 9:00 PM Pacific time on 7296 KHz. In fact, the
propagation conditions were better than our Saturday morning time
frame..
As a result, the 6 stations that showed up on the net
this morning were polled by Cam, wa6vvc, and all were in favor
of the net move to Wednesday evening..
With this move, it is likely that those subscribers to the
armyradios list who are in the mountain time zone may also be able
to make contact with us.. Please give this a try on Wednesdays
at 8:00 PM..
Al, W6GER, recently got an AN/GRC106 and had it on the air this
morning.. He will be changing his antenna in the near future. at
400 watts PEP, he should be able to pound out a really excellent
signal to everyone.. congrats Al on getting your rig on the air!!..
Note that we still have two other alternate frequencies if 7296 has
interference, or propagation problems:
7283 KHz USB, and
3996 KHz USB..
Bart suggested that we may explore moving the 7296 Khz freq up
to 7297. This will still give us 3 KHz separation from
the band edge. For now the plan is to stay on 7296 USB and
see how this works out.
Coincidentally, there is a foreign broadcast station that goes off
the air at 2100 hrs PDT, and they are on 7295 KHz.. so this new net
may work out quite well for us ..
See you there ..
Trish
