Note that my comvan is  using  Motorola's new "MICOM-2R",
Mil-spec, Ruggedized HF radio for Data Communications.

This set is current production and Motorola came out with this unit just
under three years ago.

You can see further info on this radio, via the MOBAT website.

This radio has some very unique features applicable to a
rapid-deployment mission.

Below is a photo of my MICOM-2R , which has Motorola's continuous-duty blower-kit, and also the "high-stability frequency option" which allows for 1/10th ppm frequency stability. With the blower kit,
this unit can run 125-watt data transmission on a
continuous-duty basis.

This radio is interfaced to a Kantronics KAM(e) unit which has been upgraded a number of times over the years.

Interflex provides a really good application program called KaGold which is designed specifically for use with the Kantronics KAM-series tnc's.

I'm currently using a Panasonic model CF-25 "Toughbook" laptop in
this installation, and it is running Windows '95....

One nice thing about KaGold is that it supports automatic look-ups to the
"QRZ" Cd-Roms (among others) , so when you connect, you automatically can have the connected station's address, operator name and related information added on the screen of your PC or laptop. KaGold also supports multiple callsigns, so if you use your station for Amateur radio, and MARS for example, it is easy to swap callsigns by creating a menu that you just select. This saves having to go in and reset several different individual commands one at a time.
