Late info from Jeff Ciccone

Trish...some updated pics of the "Comvee":

The side view of the vehicle has a new winch&brushguard-I replaced the AT1011 tilt adapter and went back to the AB652 because the whip was not parallel with the vehicle.

The other photos show the GRC106 for HF and the rearrangement of the front radio rack - RT524 on the top with the PRC66 piggybacked. The 66 feeds an AM4797
amplified speaker. The VIC1 is on the lower mount along with 2 C2298s. 2
more C2298s are set up in front of the rear seats.

Future plans call for building a NVIS loop (that patent link for that NVIS antenna was interesting - I wonder what type and capacity vacuum variable they used.)

Also  the 66 will eventually be swapped out for the URC101, 24/12v dc inverter for cellphone and an am/fm radio. Norm Chipps from Maryland (N3RZU) fed his am/fm radio into a VIC1 using two 8:1000 ohm audio transformers tapped off the speaker leads properly phased into the line input on the AM1780.

BTW  I talked to Dave Fiedler last week and we had an interesting
conversation about military HF and NVIS.  He said the GRC106 design suffered
in that there should have been more inductance in the loading coils at the
lower freqs. As an alternative he said more MS116s could be added over the
normal 15ft length.  regards Jeff KG2BZ
