I have been a subscriber to the list for quite awhile now, and
never see much
about 10FM using Mil Gear. 32 or so years ago, over the pond in sunny
S.E.
Asia, was able to put the "Red Flag" Freq's to good use,
allowing "Private
Channels" of Commo between sites where one wanted to stay off
the official
assigned freq's.
There
was usually a standby RT 524 available,
in a hooch or in a vehicle. The RT 524 will operate
just fine in the Red Flag Area below 30 MHZ.
By putting the MC dial in the Red, the Radio tunes 29 Mhz.
The Khz control operates as normal.
The Midwest Military Radio Collectors Group, that is the 7160 USB
(0200 GMT)
most every night, also uses 51 MHZ with 150Hz tone, for short
distance and
band openings when they occur. We also make use of 29.6FM, with 150
hz
tone using the Red Flag Freqs.
We have also used 29.65, 29.8 and 29.9 mhz at various times, but
monitor
29.6 Mhz for the most part. Back in the 89/90 Sunspot Peak, one of
the group
lived in Southern California, and we had almost constant commo on
29.6 FM
using RT 524's. In fact, one night we were on, and a station broke,
wanting to
know who we were. He was Radio Repair, working on Tracked Vehicle at
Ft. Irving,
Calif, and tuned across us. He joined us a couple of times.
I usually have a couple of AS 1729's poked up in the air on GRA 4
Mast sets, or RC 292 Mast Sets, one on 51 Mhz, and another on 29.6
Mhz.
I don't bother with the control cable, just set it to freq. Since
the AS 1729 dose not need a Ground plane, with the mast adapter this
makes a pretty simple way to get on the air.
Of Course, a coaxial dipole will work, and pretty easy to erect
and is also vertical polarized. I also usually keep a RC 292 up,
either on 51, or 29.6 or a LP 1404,
30-76 Mhz Log Periodic, usually vertical polarized, though use it
horizontal with the PRC 70 for 6Meter SSB work. included are
some Low Resolution photos.
I thought maybe you might consider posting a freq for 10 FM such
as 29.6 Mhz,
and a 6 Meter SSB Freq for when the band is open for PRC 70 use.
Can't have
too many freq's.

Maybe we will be hear some you out there on the West coast before
the Cycle
ends. Dust off those 524's and stick up some kind of wire in the air
for 10 FM or 6
SSB.

PS: the adapter will mount the AB 15 base with adapter plate, or
the AT1011,
etc. which can be set to 10 meters, but would need to install the
ground plane.
The Mast Adapter has the holes for 4 ground plane elements.
