Paul Cavnar in an earlier time, with gear in action in Vietnam:

Here it is, the AN/TSC-15 Comm van. It was a combination HF station with two receivers and one transmitter capable of 1KW output. The photo was taken in September, 1969 at Chu Lai Airbase while station with the 13th Marine Air Group base comm section.

My job was to set up the van (after the 1500+ sand bags were filled and stacked around it for rocket protection.)

The second photo was taken about a month later once the installation was complete. Inside, you can see the switchboard prominently behind me. Both transmitters are the dark area on the left side. The left wall contained the teletype machine and power panel.

This shelter is the same basic size as the S250 but, the interior is considerably different from the GRC-142.

Paul Cavnar wrote to me today regarding a project he is working on.

Below is his message, and photos will be arriving as phases of his project get
completed...

-------------

I have a project that I am working on for our local group. We were given two S250/G shelters, similar to your S144 only a bit taller and the bottom is cut like a camper. One is being used for storage right now and the other is being converted to a comm van that we hope to mount onto a 2-axle trailer for transport.

It has been a slow process since we don't have a trailer and no $$$ to do anything with at this time. I have a couple of photos that I can send along sometime if you're interested and I'll be doing "progress" photos as I get things working.

At this time, we have a 50-ft telescoping/tubular tower that nests to 7-ft that will be mounted on the front of the van on the trailer. Equipment wise, we have quite a bit of comm'l surplus donated including some Motorola Mitrek UHF and VHF and a GE Delta that will provide packet service. My intention is to setup power to function primarily on 12-vdc with a 120vac backup. I would like to have to good sized solar panels to charge batteries during the day along with an inverter and charger to run from the 120v generator set which can be a small 1200-1500w unit.

Thanks for a nice site and feature place for the list.
