The photo below is me behind the wheel of my
M37, right after acquiring it in 1989. This is the
"Ultimate" in a commute vehicle in Silicon Valley !!

The two photos above were taken in approx 1989-1990
and were when the M37 was set up with canvas top
and without the S144 COMM-Shelter...

As far as biographical information, I've been into amateur
radio
as a hobby since
1964 while in High School. In 1970
I self-studied and obtained a
Commercial
Radio Telephone ( 2nd Class ) from the FCC.
After taking a two semester class, facilitated by
instructors from
Motorola's
Site Management Unit,
I landed a full-time position with a Motorola
Service
Station (MSS) called "Champ Communications"
in the San Jose
Area, back in 1977.
I was with Motorola for 3 years, and then moved into
Public Safety
Communications Maintenance with
County and later, Municipal agencies.
I have a Certificate in Management and Supervision,
and have been
in the
land-mobile radio field for 30 years.

OTHER INTERESTS:
I collect non-fiction books on Espionage, covert ops,
cryptography, ELINT,
SIGINT, The Intelligence Community and related subjects. Over the
past
30 years I've put together a collection of over 320 volumes on
this subject.
I Enjoy HF portable radio operation with mil-spec comms equipment
via Pactor/G-Tor/RTTY modes on 80/40 meters.
As of April, 2000 I've joined ARMY MARS, callsign = AAR9JA

I enjoy long-range target shooting, 200-1000 Yards, and am a life
member
of the NRA, and am member of the U.S. Army's Civilian
Marksmanship program.
(click the NRA logo for details)..
My partner Carla, and I, are volunteer Range Safety Officers (RSO) at
the
Santa Clara County 200 Yard rifle range. Click the "200
YD Rifle Range"
for further details and directions to the facility if you are
interested
in high-power rifle marksmanship...
We are there on the 4th Sunday of each month (NOT
necessarily the same
as the last Sunday) and the range is open to the public at
large, with firearms
up to, and including .50 cal.
I'm also a member of the U.S. Civilian Marksmanship program.

Below is one of my early stations from the late 1970's/early 80's.
This is a Kenwood TS130S, set up for RTTY on a (then) popular
80 Meter RTTY channel on 3612.5 KHz (Mark Tone).
The "Terminal Unit" or "TU" (This is way
before TNC's),
is a HAL, model ST-6 ...
The RATT equipment is an original and clean AN/FGC25
Mechanical setup, made by Kleinschmidt. The unit has the
Original table, with waste-basket, tape-punch, tape-reader,
and printer unit.

This station was set up for autostart and anytime someone would
come up on the channel with 3612.5 KHz mark-tone, the Hal ST-6
terminal unit would power up the ac power for the AN/FGC25
package and hard-copy would start spilling out on the floor..
